How do you relax after a long day of hard, physical work? What about after the tension of sitting for too long? How do you make time for wellness in Toronto?
Whether you’re trying to get in better shape, improve your athletic performance, or you’ve taken on a major physical task–like gardening, shovelling snow, or moving furniture– you’ve likely dealt with muscle soreness at some time in your life. Nothing’s worse than hitting the sack feeling fine but waking up the next morning to find that a deep ache has set in.
On the other hand, if you do a lot of sitting, you might experience an accumulative tension that’s sore in a very different way, but that’s equally disruptive to your quality of life.
Maybe you’ve heard about the benefits of soaking in an Epsom salt bath, but you haven’t made time for it. You’ve probably wondered, does Epsom salt really work? Is it worth all the fuss?
Like many people, you probably feel like there’s no time for wellness in Toronto, right? After all, time is money. Plus, even if you’d like to try an Epsom salt bath, do you really want to go to the trouble of lugging around a bunch of Epsom salt? What about cleaning the tub after your bath? And living in Toronto, you might not even have a bathtub!
Better than taking an Epsom salt bath at home, which would only include a few scoops of salt, try floating! Each float tub is filled with one foot of water containing approximately 1000 lbs of Epsom salt! Now that’s what we mean by real self care.
You can relieve some of your aches, pains, and tension by booking a float session at Vital Float! But first, why is Epsom salt considered to be so great?
Despite being called “salt,” Epsom salt actually doesn’t contain any sodium chloride (NaCl). In fact, Epsom salt has very little in common with the salt that you might find on your kitchen table.
Epsom salt is really magnesium sulfate (MgSO4). While it does look a bit like table salt in its solid state, we wouldn’t recommend putting it on your food! Unlike the saltiness of salt, Epsom salt has a very bitter flavour, not something you would ever want to put in your mouth. Instead, Epsom salt is usually used for therapeutic purposes.
Epsom salt can:
When you think saltwater, you might think about the Dead Sea, not floating in Toronto. The Dead Sea is a massive body of water in the Middle East with an incredibly high salt content of 34.2%. It’s even saltier than the ocean! Because of the beautiful climate and the briny-sea, people from all over the world flock to the Dead Sea to float. They can do this because of the incredibly high-density of salt in the water.
But a trip to the Dead Sea is a little impractical when you’re looking for wellness in Toronto, right? So does floating at Vital Float replicate the same concentration of salt as the Dead Sea? Even better, we’ve made improvements! There are some significant reasons why we’ve chosen to use with Epsom salt rather than sodium chloride.
While there’s a form of therapy that involves salt called Halotherapy, floating in Toronto is quite different, though there are still similarities. The main reason is that, while there has only been inconclusive research into the benefits of salt therapy, the benefits of floating in Epsom salt are well reported! As far as self care in Toronto goes, floating in Epsom salt is difficult to beat!
Epsom salt is recommended for bath water for many of these same reasons; it rapidly dissolves in water, releasing magnesium and sulfates. Magnesium is the second-most abundant element in our bodies, and many of us are deficient in magnesium. When you float in the Epsom salt-infused water, your body absorbs the magnesium, helping to bring balance back to your body.
Just like with saltwater, floating in water with a high concentration of Epsom salts results in your effortlessly floating on its surface. At Vital Float, we fill each tub with one foot of water containing approximately 1000 lbs of Epsom salt! When you float with us, the buoyancy of the water helps you release all of the pressure that gravity usually puts on your body, including your muscles and joints. Combine this with the wealth of health benefits of Epsom salt, and you have a remarkable combination of therapies to help your body recover from physical exertion.
We keep the temperature of the water at body temperature; around 34-35°C (93-95°F). It’s not at all like sitting in a hot Epsom salt bath where you might not be able to stay in for very long. After a few minutes, it can become difficult to tell where you end and your body begins!
When combined with floating, the benefits of Epsom salt become even more pronounced. You’ll be floating in Toronto in a completely stress-free environment with no distractions, just pure peace and relaxation. And because of the buoyant water, you won’t need to support your body at all; the floating is entirely effortless. The water does it for you. Without all of the pressures of the world constantly around, you can simply lay back and allow the Epsom salt and the floating to work wonders on your mind and body. You can truly relax and heal.
